Is Your Console Loud?
Being a gamer usually means having your console on for hours at a time. While the console is running the fan inside keeps all the components from overheating. In order to create cooling air it actually sucks air in as it spins, this causes dust to be gathered inside of the machine.
As time goes on the console will get louder and louder and will sometimes even crash and turn off completely, we have all experienced it or know someone who has. Over time the dust build up inside the machine is not visible and even though you are doing your best to keep it clean, dust build up is inevitable.
This can cause several serious issues such as BGA failure (Ball Grid Array) What is that I hear you ask! BGA failure is bad news for any console. Underneath the APU (Accelerated Processing Unit), which is the brain of the console, is an array of solder ball joints. If just 1 of these crack due to overheating and cooling, then it can be game over for the console. Also where the fan sits over the APU thermal paste is used. We have seen consoles with brittle thermal paste due to the paste ageing.
If you are a fan of the PlayStation, then the chances are you have heard a term called "Blue Light of Death" This can be caused by a number of issues and probably the most common is an APU failure. Again keeping the APU cool is paramount. This was similar to the "Red Ring of Death" on the Xbox 360 consoles.
This is just one of many things that can happen but probably one of the most horrific things that could happen is that it could catch fire. No one wants this.
